The increase in Live Concerts is a global phenomenon, that is involving both Europe and the United States, as the recent Citi Research report pointed out (link?). Live music in the United States is believed to be reaching an 11.06-billion-dollar turnover by 2019, which is interesting if compared to the 9.06-billion-dollar turnover of the year 2014. It’s a truly surprising data, especially if compared to the 3.66 billion dollars online plays are generating.
“Last time I saw so many people buying tickets for live concerts was at the end of the 90s” stated Tommy Goodwin, with a 20-year experience of concerts and big events organization, among which remarkable festivals such as the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York.
The situation is the same in Europe: as an example, last year saw a 12% increase in live events and festivals in the United Kingdom (source: MN2s link), which today represents the second European live music market, following that of Germany only (the latter in particular was able last year to generate a 2.1-billion-dollar turnover for live music).
Music Tourism, with fans travelling around different countries following their favourite concerts, is increasing too. And the increase itself does not involve mainstream artists only. In fact, less known artists too are increasingly gathering audience in different venues, with a growing number of concerts.

The increase in live events touches Soundreef songwriters and publishers too.
The number of 2018 live events, with the sole reference to the first 7 months of the year, is already running for record. The amount of Soundreef live events (with LEA, Liberi Editori Autori, licencing activity in Italy) from January to the end of July, is getting closer to the total reached during the 12 months of the year 2017. Compared to the amount of Soundreef concerts in 2016, the number has already doubled.
Licences worth is increasing too and very often it is directly proportional to the extent of the event, the size of the festival and/or the popularity of the musicians. The average licences worth, that had already saw a remarkable peak in 2017, is totally confirming 2018 trend too.
And what about Live Events organizers? “Figures related to new organizers, signing up to Soundreef for the first time and getting great satisfaction from the service, are really shocking” – told us Alex, a staff member of LEA customer support live. “This is without hesitation one of the most important data of the first 7 months of the year 2018”.
